同志諸君、ちょっと聞いてほしい。僕らがどうしようもなく惹かれてしまう、あの「腋毛」のことだ。なぜだろうな？ 女性の身体には他にも魅力的なパーツがたくさんあるのに、なぜ僕らは、あのワイルドで、時に繊細で、そして何より普段は隠されていることが多い「それ」に、こんなにも心を掴まれてしまうのだろうか。

思春期、周りの空気が変わり始めた頃を覚えているだろうか。雑誌を開けば「ムダ毛処理はエチケット！」なんて文字が躍り、クラスの女子たちは夏が近づくと何やらヒソヒソと「処理」の話で盛り上がっていた。まるで、腋毛は「存在してはいけないもの」「隠すべきもの」であるかのように。
その時、僕の中に小さな疑問が芽生えたんだ。「なぜ、そんなに隠すんだろう？」と。だってそうじゃないか？ 髪の毛や眉毛と同じ、身体の一部だ。それなのに、腋毛だけがなぜか「見せてはいけないもの」として扱われる。その社会的な「お約束」が、僕には妙に引っかかった。

もし、腋毛が髪の毛のように誰でもオープンにしているものだったら、僕はここまで惹かれただろうか？ おそらく、そうではなかったと思う。日常的に目にしていれば、それはただの「風景」の一部になっていたかもしれない。
でも、現実は違う。女性たちは、それを隠そうと努力する。腕を上げる仕草にどこか緊張感が漂ったり、袖の短い服を避けるようになったり。その「見せまい」とする意識が、逆に僕の意識をそこへ集中させたんだ。
「隠されている」ということは、そこには何か特別なものがあるんじゃないか？ 簡単には見せない、その奥ゆかしさ（と言っていいのかわからないが）。あるいは、あえて隠すことで生まれるミステリアスな雰囲気。そうしたものが、僕の好奇心を刺激し続けた。
考えてみてほしい。宝物は、誰の目にも触れる場所に無造作に置かれていただろうか？ 大抵は厳重に隠され、特別な時にだけ姿を現すものじゃないか。僕にとっての腋毛は、まさにそれだった。普段は決して見ることができない。だからこそ、ふとした瞬間に垣間見えた時の衝撃は、言葉にできないほどだった。
それは、クラスのマドンナが黒板に手を伸ばした一瞬かもしれないし、満員電車で吊り革を掴む、見知らぬ女性のほんの数秒かもしれない。その「チラリ」と見える一瞬に、僕は確かに「禁断の果実」を味わうような、背徳的でありながらも抗えない魅力を感じたんだ。
「見てはいけない」と言われるものほど、見たくなる。それは人間の性（さが）なのかもしれない。そして、その「見てはいけないもの」の価値を、自分だけが知っているような、そんなひそやかな優越感も、正直あったと思う。周りの男たちが気づかない、あるいは気に留めないであろうその部分に、僕は確かな美しさと興奮を見出していた。
もしかしたら、僕らは無意識のうちに、社会が作り上げた「普通」や「理想」に、どこかで反発したいのかもしれない。「ツルツルが美しい」という画一的な価値観に対して、「いや、そうじゃないだろう」と。自然のままの姿、ありのままの生命力、そういったものにこそ、本当の魅力が宿っているんじゃないか、と。
だから、僕が腋毛に惹かれるのは、単なる視覚的な好みだけではない。それは、「隠されたもの」への探求心であり、社会的な「タブー」への挑戦であり、そして何より、自分だけの「美意識」を肯定したいという気持ちの表れなのかもしれない。
